Librarians, Avert Your Eyes...

Seems that students at MIT and the Boston Public Library have found a unique use for withdrawn books...visit the Building with Books exhibit to learn more.

What do you do with unused books? How do you discard potential? This team has done a great job unlocking it with their creations. I'm more inclined to the unfunctionals...the quilt is wonderful, super sweet dreams. Yet the book shelves are quite intriguely, tongue in cheek. Congrats!

Our library "weeds" materials that are worn and/or outdated and places them in fund raising book sales--not so creative as the solution pictured here. The gardening metaphor is apt, however, in terms of attempting to keep the collection strong and vibrant. This is sometimes hard for patrons to understand. Perhaps we should build some chairs?
